Hello from Las Vegas, Nevada USA. To remove nail polish from rugs and carpeting. Simply pour some isopropol alcohol on a clean rag and spray hair spray on the dirty area, then rub. You will have to repeat this process until the nail polish has been completely removed. (TEST THE CARPET OR RUG FOR DISCOLORATION BEFORE BEGINNING THIS PROCESS.)

Not a tip, but a question. I've been using a polish on my furniture which has made the surfaces sticky, and I've tried all sorts of stuff to wash it off (soapy water made with washing - up liquid, washing powder) all to no avail. Can anyone help me ? I'm afraid to use meths as has been suggested for fear of ruining the finish permanently.

Keep your sterling "sterling" pristine, your gold, gold. Do not keep gold jewelry together in the same box as sterling. Or either, in the same box as costume jewelry. First, clean the gold and sterling; then keep them completely separate. You won't have to shine and polish as often.

For the rust cry for help... I would suggest scrubbing off what rust you can see, first, with baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) paste. Once the cooker is clean, use a dab of oil and polish the cooker. The oil will act as a barrier between the moist air and water that would otherwise feed the rust. It will be a problem from here on out, but if you treat it regularly with a bit of oil, it will lessen the likelihood of the rust returning to say hello!

To get your patent white shoes clean, use a little non-acetone nail polish remover on them. Buff with a aerosol furniture polish sprayed on a soft cloth. They will look like new, Also, use the furniture polish on high gloss black shoes. It takes out scratches and gives a high shine while repelling dust. Keep polishing wipes at your desk to clean your shoes. You'll always look spiffy!

Very dirty brass can be cleaned with brown sauce. It works on hammered & embossed brass, too. Polish after cleaning. From romay123

If your laminate work surfaces are worn from too much scrubbing, apply a light coat of stainless steel polish and buff dry (after cleaning, of course!). Stainless steel polish is made to be used on food preparation surfaces, so it's non-toxic. The polish keeps your work surfaces smooth and easy to wipe down. Plus, stains won't set in as quickly!
