Need suggestion. I had a fire in my kitchen which has left the walls and the roof stained with smoke. I could wipe off only a part of it though not clearly. was wondering if there is a way to clean the walls to avoid repainting. TRY USING A SUGAR SOAP SOLUTION :)

If you are having trouble with fruit flies in your kitchen just take a coffee mug and put about one quarter of a cup of cider vinegar and a tablespoon of dish soap into it. Vinegar first and let the dish soap settle not mix into it. Leave this out for 24 hours and all of the fruit flies wil have come for vinegar and stayed because of the soap :)

Mildew and food particles tend to settle in the bottom of the silverware holder attached to my plastic dish drainer. Just adding a few drops of bleach directly to the bottom of the silverware container after cleaning it has prevented ant brown mildew build-up.

To clean burnt food from under the stove, try a mixture of baking soda, salt, and water. It works wonders as a cleaner, and if you make a separate batch, it can be used as toothpaste, as well!

Actually, this is a question. My tile floor in the kitchen is only a year old. This is the main floor where people enter the home from outside. The grout is suppose to be a light color. It is now a dark dirty color. How do I clean the grout to make it beige again? I've used ammonia and clorox.

as 4 getting rid of ants in the kitchen, make sure counter and sink are clean and dry! also no leaks in the faucet or under sink. ants love water and crumbs. try leaving a cup of bleach around sink area or were you see them coming from. or use granule insect bait in cracks and around outside of windows

as for the baskets under burners on an electric stove... you can buy new ones very cheap. If your oven is a self cleaning...add the baskets in for the whole cleaning cycle. Or you can get black stove pipe paint and spray paint them like new.

Although I have improvised with an episode from K&A this one is a gem and worth the effort. Grimy ceramic tiles...biological washing up liquid (used for clothes - doesnt matter how cheap it is) mixed in warm water and a little bleach. Gloves, scrubbing brush, damp cloth and a window squeegee (I think thats how it's spelt). Have another bucket to hand filled with warm water, start scrubbing with the floor brush (the one like cinders used) scrubbing in circular motions, get a damp cloth to wipe the parts which you have scrubbed, then get your squeezgee and wipe away the excess water, get a clean mop soak in the bucket of warm water (prepared earlier) and wash over the part you have scrubbed and squeezgeed, leave to dry and admire your hard work!!!! And your arms will be lovely and toned too!!

The microwave in my house tends to get a build up of dried on food spatters. As I do my weekly cleaning, I put a glass bowl that can hold about a pint of water and turn the microwave on for about 10 minutes. The steam from the water helps loosen dried on food! I do other cleaning while the bowl is in the microwave cooking. Most times I just wipe it all out and then rinse with bleach-water. For tougher food spatters, just repeat!

For anyone with a stove top mess use your oven cleaner. Spray it on, follow directions for oven cleaning and wipe off! It usually will clean up the worst messes.
