To easily remove burned on grease, pan drippings etc. from stove burner grids, soak them in a strong solution of hot water and laundry ammonia. I use a Dutch oven covered with a lid to protect against the fumes. You can leave it outside if you want. Soak them until the spills just wipe off. If your grids are very bad, you can soak them overnight. It doesn't hurt them.

To Lorimay, who has grease stains on glass: Have you tried the K&A standard of 1 part vinegar, 1 part warm water, and a few squirts of liquid soap? The vinegar and soap are both great grease fighters. I have just used this on a very old mucky sash window I picked up at a flea market (read: picture frame) and it turned out very well. Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle and use crumpled newspaper to wipe. This will take a little bit of elbow grease, but it works like a charm.

We have old Edwardian brilliant cut glass badly stained with 100+ years of coal dust, smoke & nicotine which seemed impossible to clean with conventional cleaners. We made a paste of bicarb & vinegar and smeared over, left it for 15 minutes and washed off with a bit of elbow grease - the glass is now sparkling clean.

It's not a tip it's a question actually! I have a flat top electric stove, and there is some dried up grease on the back of it. I don't know how to get it off without scratching it. I don't want to ruin it. Can anyone help me on it?

Hi,when baking a pie there is no need to grease the plate or dish as there is enough butter or fat in the pastry to do the job.

When my baked on enamel roaster pan gets "stuck on dirty", I simply put it in the oven on the cleaning cycle for about an hour. Then, after it's cooled, I put it in the sink and rinse and wipe it down. NO SCRUBBING! Saves lot's of time and elbow grease.

To the person asking about the enamel over iron pot, are you sure that it is stained and that your enamel hasn't worn to show the iron beneath it? One thing that I've found to get baked-on stains off is to soak the pot with only an inch or so of water and powder dishwasher detergent. That way it's super-concentrated and should break up any grease or baked-on badness.

Question : I have an cast iron with enamel pot that is very badly stained on the bottom (inside). I have tried scrubbing with coarse salt, soaking with dish soap, boiling with cream of tartar, and lots of elbow grease with just about every kind of scrubbing tool that I could find. If anyone knows of something that will remove very ugly stains from enamel please, please, please let me know. I would hate to have to throw the pan out!

To Remove grease stains from leather shoes smooth a coating of glue from a puncture outfit (rubber solution) over the stain. Leave for 24 hours then peel off.

Not a tip but a question!! Whats the best way to get the grease mark off oven shelves?? is there anything I can soak them in??

f you have a dirty pan that you just can't seem to get clean or you burned something this really works! Squirt a little dishwasher detergent in the pan and fill with hot water. If it is encrusted inside and out then fill the sink and immerse the offending pan. You can leave it overnight but if it is just stuff burned or dried on a few hours will suffice. Works great even on old baked on stains! Scrub with nylon brillo pad. It usually wipes right off with no effort. The best brand I have found is Cascade Complete. It eats right thru all the food and grease. It only takes about a teaspoon for the average pan. You can also use it on stovetops and ovens.

louise....if your tub is either ceramic/porcelain or fiberglass type, try dilute white vinegar, spray on and let sit for a while, then soap using either a grease cutting dish washing detergent or a shampoo for oily hair without built in conditioner. Rinse well. For stubborn rings,a paste of water and baking soda or those new erasure cleaning pads ( Mr. Clean) and some elbow grease should do it. Let me know how it goes.....Sparky

One of the best ways to keep your kitchen clean is to install a good extractor fan and to clean the filter at least every six months. That way all of the cooking grease doesn't stay in the room.
